As an animal rescue, we often have people who contact us wanting to surrender kittens who are days, if not only hours old. The issue is that these neonatal babies need a special type of care that not everyone can provide. We at East of Eden have several volunteers who are a part of our neonatal care team and even possess two incubators for this vulnerable population of baby kittens. These kittens need to be bottle fed every 1+ hours, and they must have their body temperatures maintained as they are unable to do this themselves.

Because we only have a limited number of team members who can care for these babies, we would like to offer training courses to pet store associates and the general public. The topics that would be covered are, first and foremost, leaving the kittens alone unless they are in great danger or you know with 100% certainty that the mother will not return, safely bottle feeding, elimination, and temperature control. Additionally, we would cover feeding guidelines and what equipment is needed and recommended. Finally, we would cover resources and any questions participants may have.

For anyone interested in taking a course like this, please let us know by email at eoerescue@yahoo.com. Once we have enough interested parties, we will begin scheduling dates to host a Neonatal Training Course. The course would be free of charge, but we always appreciate donations and support to help maintain our rescue and save more at-risk animals.
